Losing it for a good cause

Next Saturday 13 March the World’s Greatest Shave takes off, where around the country more than 125,000 people are expected to shave or colour their hair to raise money in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.

And Regi will be having all her hair shaved off for the occasion!

We’ve shot Regi before for a series on motherhood and when she decided to shave her hair for charity, she came to us here at Hudcomm Studios to ask if we would document the experience.  We, of course, jumped at the chance to be involved and below are the first in a series of three separate shoots with Regi.  This, the first, shows her with all her luxurious, beautiful hair.

Next we will be heading down to her workplace, the Camberwell Brazilian Butterfly of which Regi is the manager,  where next Saturday she is hosting the World’s Greatest Shave.  Her employers are entirely supportive of her initiative, and shortly after 3pm next Saturday, Regi’s colleagues, clients, local media and family will watch on as she has all her hair shaved.  Hudcomm will be there to film and photograph the experience.

As a final in the series, we will then stage an outdoor shoot for Regi to model her new shaved-head look – so look out for that in the next few weeks!

Summer is here in Studio 1

Summer is relatively new to the modelling scene, but has made a great start.  She recently visited our Belgrave studios for a modelling portfolio shoot.  We had a grand time working with her and look forward to a second shoot sometime not too far off!  In the meantime, here are some of our favs from the day…

Fitness in Frankston

Shooting on location can be a real challenge.  There are restrictions as to the amount of equipment you can take, what equipment is portable and able to be transported, the time available at the venue, the model’s time and how best to light the scene with what you have - not to mention the fact such decisions often have to be made on the fly, without having previously seen the layout or venue.

Keeping yourself, the model and your crew energised throughout the shoot is almost as difficult, and just as important, particularly as you get towards the end of a long shoot.

Recently, we had the opportunity to shoot fitness model, Jasmin, at the local gym where she works as a fitness instructor.  The shoot was twofold: first, shoot Jasmin as a fitness model in action around the gym, and second, shoot  Jasmin as a glamour model, producing a variety of modelling images from the day.

We shot a bit of video during the shoot, from which we put together the following:

And now have a look at some of our favourite shots:

Arriving in Adelaide for the Fringe Festival

“Strap yourself in for a night out with cabaret artist Isabel Hertaeg.”

Recently back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is our good friend Isabel Hertaeg. Isabel has trained in acting, singing and dance in Australia and Latvia. Her cabaret works focus on femininity and society, and her works include Lady Cordelia Winterbottom’s Etiquette Hour (formerly the Lounge Set) and Isabel Hertaeg as Marilyn Monroe. Lady C TV launches early in 2010, so watch out for her.

Isabel will be performing her show La Petite Mort at the Adelaide Fringe Festival with her first show 19th February going through to 12th March 2010. Her show has been described by Kate Copstick of the The Scotsman as “This is another of the shows that remind you why you love the Fringe so much.”

So if you’re in Adelaide get along and see La Petite Mort. We wish you success in Adelaide and look forward to working on Lady C TV on your return.

K9 – Nine Lives – Rap & R&B

We met talented artist and all round nice guy Bobby – aka K9 – in late Dec 2009.

We were commissioned to shoot the stills for his soon-to-be released album, Nine Lives.  After building a good working relationship, K9 asked if we would be interested in shooting the video clip for his next single, Sunshine.  At present, we are in pre-production, finalising the script, casting and scouting locations.  We hope to start shooting in March and have the video completed in the first half of 2010.  So watch this space for further developments…

In the meantime, this shot was taken at the recent casting call, where K9 was auditioning some models for the clip:

Beautiful Gardens and a Cool Pool on a Hot Day

We had the pleasure photographing Katie in early January this year – and congratulations to Katie and Mark on their recent engagement!  (And yes, we mean an entirely different Mark and Katie to your photographers here..!)

The gardens were stunning, even if the temperatures were scorching.  Luckily we had any number of shaded areas to shoot beneath, from towering weeping willows by the dam through to the vine covered framed walk-ways.  Other parts of the garden also came in handy, especially the band stand which overlooked the dam.

As temperatures rose we decided it was time to shoot in the pool.  Again with the sun beating down and no shade over the pool we did the best with our small scrim and to position Katie and setup the shot.  Considering the harsh sun and heat, we think we got some awesome shots, and Katie did marvelously!
